Message I recently purchased a 91' NA 300zx for only $500. The car is in ok shape for the most part. Body and interior are average (normal wear and tear for an old Z). Mechanicaly from what I have seen so far is not too rough. I have never really worked on my Z before, I always paid a mechanic for the work on my TT. I would like to know I anyone has suggestions of what else I should check to determine if this Z is worth saving!

Here is what I have checked so far (feel free to comment on these results also).

Car will start right up even when cold.
Fires on 4 cyl.
Tested coil packs, all good.
Ohm tested injectors, cyl 1 & 3 are bad and must be replaced.
Pulled CAS and PTU connectors, found lots of corrosion and cleaned with vinegar.
Did compression test on all 6 cyl, here are the results:

COLD -- COLD w/oil

#1 129psi -- 144psi
#2 97psi -- 148psi
#3 100psi -- 150psi
#4 90psi -- 148psi
#5 123psi -- 164psi
#6 113psi -- 143psi

I had to do the test cold because the car barely runs (on 4cyl) and I do not want to cause any damage running it that way. Also on the oil addition I added around a teaspoon of oil to each cyl. The car was above min spec with the oil but is that cheating or can that be considered a valid reading? I can get some used 270cc injectors w/o-rings for around $110 from a fellow twinturbo.net member but don't want to waste the money if the car is junk.

Other then what was discussed above I am not sure of the condition of the rest of the car. It started, no leaks under the car, it shifted into gear and drove into my garage (about 200 feet) with no problem. I already have a beautiful TT that I have around $25,000 invested but I would like a daily driver to help reduce the wear and tear on my built TT.

I am open to any comments or suggestions on other things I should test or check. I will mention again that I have never worked on a Z. I am pretty handy I just didn't want to risk getting over my head on my daily driver and not getting it together in time for work. Also I will mention that the work I have done so far has been easy but I do not own any specialized tools but if Autozone rents it I can get it.

I love these cars and would love to revive another one but I have recently bought a new house and cash flow is very tight.

Lastly, if anyone is in the DFW area and would be interested in helping a fellow Z owner out with labor, parts, or whatever I am always open to having an extra hand.
